The Rooftop Prince was the #1 drama I was looking forward to watching this past spring. The premise seemed interesting and the trailer looked exciting and funny. A murder mystery requiring time-travel to modern Korean to solve? Joseon 4 and all their cute fish-out-of-water moments? A spunky heroine? It was the more fun drama (compared to the King) for the first few episodes.
Then, the cute and funny moments got less and less. The murder mystery took a backseat to corporate take-over-inheritance drama. Throw in birth secret times two, mean over-protective grandmother, unreasonably witchy second female lead and it all just got old real fast. The only thing that kept me going was the OTP.
The OTP had great chemistry when together, but the spunky heroine disappeared. You slap me once, fine that could happen. But you’ll never slap me twice. No way, uh-huh. I hate heroines that allow themselves to be a rug.
Plus, just really clunky writing, editing, and totally unrealistic scenarios happening over and over again. I almost got sea-sick with the amount of eye-rolling that ensued while watching.
Then, the drama surprised me with a final episode that was rather sweet. A little too late to save the drama, but with just enough to leave some goodwill. Ironic really because, the King 2 Hearts was great pretty much all the way through, but the ending left me tad bit disappointed.
In conclusion, the Rooftop Prince is okay if you watch without too much expectation and if you’re a fan of Yoochun. His acting was good and he played the most sympathetic and believable character throughout the drama. I would watch another one of his drama. As for ratings, I would say 2.5/2.5.
